Seedlings raised in trays filled with peat substrate: at planting the roots stay inside the formed root ball instead of being exposed. Establishment rates are higher than with bare-root seedlings, and the planting season stretches across almost the whole summer instead of a short spring window.

Five connected stages: seed preparation (cone drying, extraction, de-winging, separation), substrate preparation and sowing into trays, a greenhouse with automatic climate control, boom irrigation, and the growing-on field. A tray washing station sits alongside them — it returns the trays to use for the next season.

The greenhouse creates the conditions for even germination and the first weeks of growth — temperature, humidity and air recirculation are held precisely there. On the growing-on field the seedling then hardens off before it goes to the forest. Splitting the stages gives an even batch and frees the greenhouse for the next rotation.

Raised placement gives air root pruning: when a root reaches the drainage hole of the tray it stops growing, so instead of one long root the plant forms a dense fibrous system inside the root ball. Such a seedling handles planting far better. A standard stand holds 12 trays.
